About this tour
Gothenburg's underworld is a unique guided city walk in Gothenburg where you can visit the underground sections of the city's historic fortifications and experience a side of Gothenburg that few people know about. From its founding in 1621 into the 1800s, the city within the moat was one of Europe’s best-fortified. Walls, shelters, and storerooms for soldiers shaped the entire town. We show how the city was built and tell the story of fortress Gothenburg. The walk lasts 1.5–2 hours. We show the Carolus Dux bastion and the Carolus Undecimus Rex bastion by Kungsgatan. Margareta Björklund is one of the guides authorised to conduct tours in the Carolus Dux and Carolus Undecimus Rex bastions.
