Margareta Björklund is one of the guides who present Fortified Gothenburg with the Carolus Dux and Carolus Rex bastions. She started guiding early and knows her city inside and out. As a member and chair of Göteborgs Guideklubb and Walknet, she has enjoyed and benefited from her solid knowledge of Gothenburg’s history. Walknet’s guides specialize in city walks, covering most of Gothenburg on foot while highlighting different themes and layers of the city’s stories. Margareta holds a Master of Arts spanning history, economics, art, languages, and pedagogy. In recent years, she has continued deepening her knowledge through the University of Gothenburg’s open courses, including art and architecture. Earlier in her career, she worked in adult education at Vuxenskolan and TBV, focusing on training, sales, events, and exhibitions. Beyond her commitment to Gothenburg, Margareta also enjoys physical challenges. She has run marathons in New York, London, and Berlin and completed the Swedish Classic circuit. As a guide at the Volvo Museum, she told the story of Volvo’s history and development from its beginnings onward. As a tour leader, she has shown Swiss and German visitors the Arctic regions and the rest of the Nordics. She speaks Swedish, English, German, and a bit of French. In 2024, Margareta was named Influencer of the Year by Innerstaden Göteborg. Today, she is the guide who has been active the longest in Gothenburg.
